According to the rescued legend, in the past, there was a settlement in another part of the island, which was destroyed by a pirate raid. This was the original village of Kallirachi, which was renamed in Kaki Rahi (Evil Back) after the disaster.
Current Kallirachi was formed when the residents abandoned the original village. It has a population of 1300 inhabitants who are occupied with fishing, farming and tourism.
Features of the village are the residents houses, that are built according to the thassian architecture, the narrow stone streets, the small chapels and the folklore museum where you can find traditional tools, hand woven embroidery and much more.
On the west side of Thassos, along the coast, you will find Skala Kallirachis, which is just 2 km from Kallirachi village. Recently, the area has seen remarkable touristic development, as it has small scattered beaches, ideal climate, picturesque fish-taverns, restaurants, bars and several rooms for accommodation.
